The Charles Law Superior comprises a capillary tube and thermometer mounted on a board, with a scale behind the capillary tube.
The capillary tube is filled from the separate bottle of oil supplied, avoiding difficult filling with sulfuric acid. The relationship between temperature and volume can then be observed easily against the scale. Extrapolating the experimental data gives an estimate of absolute zero.
