Conductivity Star

The Conductivity Star is a thermal conductivity apparatus with 5 metal rods of aluminium, brass, mild steel, copper and nickel, mounted in a brass centre block with an integral polished wooden handle. It is heated with a tea light, candle or small Bunsen burner flame.
Students place a small amount of wax at the end of each rod and then apply heat to the centre block. The wax that melts first shows which metal conducts heat most efficiently. A tea light, candle or small Bunsen burner flame is enough as the heat source.
