The Demonstration Bimetallic Strip consists of a bimetallic strip fixed to a base, with a 12 V halogen bulb mounted below the strip.
When the power is switched on, heat from the bulb makes the bimetallic strip bend upwards, breaking the circuit and switching the bulb off. As the strip cools it returns to its original shape, completing the circuit again, and the sequence repeats until the power is disconnected. A miniature version of the same idea is used in flashing bulbs and Christmas lights.
