The Electron Diffraction Tube illustrates the wave nature of electrons: a beam passing through a polycrystalline graphite target produces two concentric rings on a fluorescent screen. It works at anode voltages up to 5 kV and needs an EHT power supply.
Electrons from the heated cathode are formed into a tight beam and sent through a thin graphite layer that behaves much like a diffraction grating. The resulting rings appear on the fluorescent screen around a central spot from the undeflected beam. From the ring radius at different anode voltages and the spacing between the crystal layers in graphite, students can calculate the electron wavelength.
| Max. anode voltage | 5 kV |
| Max. filament voltage | 6.3 V AC |
| Anode current | Approx. 0.1 mA at 4 kV |
| Target | Polycrystalline graphitised carbon on micro-mesh nickel grating |
