The Helmholtz Coils for Use with Fine Beam Tube are a pair of 295mm coils, spaced 150 mm apart, that generate a homogeneous magnetic field. At the maximum coil current of 5 A the flux density reaches 3.7 mT.
These coils set up a homogeneous magnetic field between them and, together with the dual-beam tube, are used to determine the specific charge of the electron, e/m. They can be wired in parallel or in series to suit the experiment. During measurements of the field, a Hall sensor is held in a spring clip on the top crossbar.
