The Light Gate (Photo Timing Gate) is a light operated timing gate with a photodetector and light source mounted 40 mm apart on a plastic rod. A pair of 4 mm sockets connects it to electronic timers.
The gate acts as a remote switch in a wide range of dynamics experiments. With the gate switched on, the two output sockets are short-circuited; each time an object interrupts the light beam the circuit opens, giving a connected electronic timer a clear signal.
