Van De Graaff Generator

The Van De Graaff Generator has a dome on a pillar and a rubber belt driven by an electric motor concealed in the metal base. It runs from 220 to 240V AC mains and gives a maximum spark length of approximately 50 mm.
Static charge is produced by friction between the moving rubber belt and two rollers, then removed from the belt by a metal gauze and stored in the dome. The 4 mm socket in the base can either support a conducting sphere on a cranked rod or take a wire connection to a separate conducting sphere. When the generator is not in use, the cover provided keeps it free from dust.
