Vernier Travelling Microscope

The Vernier Travelling Microscope carries a rack and pinion microscope on horizontal and vertical slides that travel 180 mm and 140 mm respectively. Positions are read on vernier scales to 0.02 or 0.01 mm.
This instrument measures objects placed on its perspex-topped stage by moving a microscope along horizontal and vertical slides and reading the vernier scales. A metal carriage slides over the machined top of the cast iron base, and a vertical slide fitted on that carriage holds the microscope. Each slide can be clamped at any position with a clamping screw, and the microscope can be clamped in a vertical or horizontal position. The base is levelled with three screws.
